Comeback...

Lizzy-Q Wed, January 21, 2004 - 12:15 PM by Lizzy-Q

I was recently sitting outside of a restaurant eating on the patio deck, and I smoked a cigarette afterwords. A very large fat woman was sitting out there too, eating a hamburger.. She looks over to me and makes a sarcastic *cough*cough* sound at me, and procides to tell me "Thats gonna kill you, you know."
I say to her, "Last I heard Obesity is the #1 killer of Americans, and that hamburger will be killing you faster than my cigarette."

Normally I am not this rude, but I hate people making such a big fuss over my smoking. I enjoy smoking, and have no intentions on quitting.

Any of you have good comebacks on smart remarks from strangers?

It really amazes me when people feel that I can't smoke _outdoors_ in a public place, because it's near them.

My ususal comeback to those that are inappropiatly concerned for my health,"those things can kill you....." is to answer:

"So can annoying strangers."

or something to that effect. I am normally that rude- I am getting old and cranky. Well, at least middle-aged and cranky....

stay warm,
Lawrence

I'm usually a laid back person, until it comes to someone telling me about my bad habits. "Those things can kill you". Blah blah blah... Not to long ago a woman had died of smoking complications at 104 years old......104 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!....I'll be happy if I make it to 65. But then again. I have a better chance of being killed by ejected airplane waste than I do of smoking.

Crazy ain't it? It's like the smoking is keeping them alive. All four of my grandparents are smokers, They're all still alive, and they're getting ooooold. Both my parents smoke....I've always thought they were old. They have nothing wrong with them, they're always getting checked up, no cancer, no lung problems, it's like they've never smoked before in their lives. They will more than likely smoke until the day they die..my guess, late 80's, early 100's. So it's hard for me to believe all of those "truth.com" commercials.

more people die each year that are non smokers than are smokers

an episode of crank yankers had a sign that said "NON SMOKING DEATHS THIS YEAR" and it was over 1 million

So, Lawrence, are you really saying cigarettes are good for you? You are 41. Ever tried to give up. Seriously, have you?

the best comeback I've come up with when people tell me off for smoking is that "it's the most social form of suicide I could find" then go into a story of being stopped and getting into trouble for going out with a loaded shotgun under my coat.
